1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible

1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible. Original California car with it\\\'s California black license plates. This is a really fun car to own and drive. I have had many classic and exotic cars over the years and this car gets more attention that any other! 1961 is considered to be the rarest and one of the most desirable of the suicide door convertibles of the early 1960\\\'s. Convertible Continentals of this generation are the most favored by collectors.
This Lincoln runs and drives great. It floats down the road like you are driving on a cloud. The Original 430 motor still runs strong and the Original automatic transmission shifts smoothly and accurately. The brakes were gone through a year ago and the car stops great without pulling to either side when the brakes are applied. The power steering works amazingly well. You could drive this car all day long with only one finger on the steering wheel. It goes perfectly straight down the road and can cruise smoothly down the freeway at 70mph without a problem. I am the 3rd owner on the car and the mileage of 82,688 is said to be original miles. The car was painted 12 years ago with a high quality paint and has been garaged every day since. The paint still has a very nice gloss and a smooth finish. It is a bright white with a very SLIGHT pearl. I am personally not a huge fan of pearl paint jobs, but this one is very subtle. In fact when I bought the car I didn\\\'t notice the pearl until the car was in the bright sunlight. The pearl gives the paint color a small addition of reflective shine. It really looks good!
The mechanical\\\'s of this car are in great working order. Lincolns of this year have many options and are known to have problems with their electrical systems. This car has none of those normal issues. The power windows work great and can be operated from each of the passenger seat switches and the drivers door switches. The 6-way power drivers seat works great in all directions. The windshield wipers operate correctly. All gauges are in working order including the fuel gauge. The heater blower motor works well. The clock is the only thing not working.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, the power top works perfectly! These cars are plagued with operation issues when it comes to the tops working correctly. A Lincoln with the convertible top not working means you will probably be spending $3,000-$5,000 getting it fixed. I know this because I did exactly that. The top on this car was working when I bought it, but had some intermittent days that it didn\\\'t work. So, in January this year I had John C. spent 2 days replacing all of the mechanics of the top with brand new everything! Including updated hydraulic cylinders, pumps, hoses, electrical switches, relays, etc. It cost over $3500 to do (see picture of receipt for breakdown of new parts installed), but there is no longer a need to worry if the top will work or not. John C. is well known in the Lincoln Continental world as the Guru on Convertible top repair and service. Not only does the top work perfectly, but even the \\\"auto lowering\\\" rear window feature is still working on this car. This feature lowers the rear window of the car 4 inches when the outside door handle push button is pressed allowing the door to be opened without catching on the top. The top material is also brand new, including the wiring, top pads and a crystal clear new rear window.
The interior of the car is two-tone black and white and is only 2 years old. The door panels were covered to match the two-tone seats and a new carpet and pad was also installed. This car really looks nice with the black and white contrasting interior.
Cosmetically the car looks great, but there are a few minor things that could be done to make the car even nicer. The stainless steel trim on the car is in great shape and the front grill and bumper are in great shape. However, the rear bumper has some pitting in the chrome and would look much better with fresh chrome. I have a nicer rear bumper for the car that I bought and never put on. There is a small dent in the front bumper and just behind the bumper on the fender, see picture for detail. The dent is not deep and may be able to be removed by a \\\"paintless dent repair\\\" shop. There is a small crack in the paint next to the dent, and there is one scratch in the paint on the rear fender. Other than that the paint is very nice. The rear deck lid needs to be adjusted. When the rear decklid is closed there is a gap, so the rear edge of the decklid need to be brought down to match the top of the rear grill better. The dash has 2 small cracks on the top of it, but for the last 12 years there has been a carpeted cover on the dash which not only hides the cracks but also protects the dash from further issues. It looks fine with the carpet cover. that is the short list of things that could be done to make the car better.

I have been fortunate enough to own this car for the past 3 years. I have driven it a few times a week since I\\\'ve had it and have totally enjoyed it every time! Never once has it given me any trouble. I have taken this car to small car shows in the area and it is always well received. I wouldn\\\'t call it a show car, but a very nice driver.

Average retail on the NADA guide is $31,460 and a high retail is $82,610. This car is definitely above average and with no mechanical problems this car is ready to get in a drive anywhere. I am selling this car with NO RESERVE, because I need to sell it. So, bid with confidence and know that some lucky person will own the great Convertible at the end of this auction. Don\\\'t miss out!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to set up a time to come and view/drive the car.
